Resumen: El artículo pretende recordar el importante papel que jugó Jules Verne en la moderna literatura fantástica. Sus Viajes extraordinarios modernizan la odisea clásica y, gracias a la incorporación de la ciencia y a la importancia que concede a la verosimilitud dentro de lo fantástico, crea la ciencia ficción, al tiempo que crea una literatura fantástica basada no el terror, como era común en su época, sino en la fascinación. La utopía es un género muy antiguo, pero no le sucede lo mismo a la distopía, que debe mucho también al escritor de Nantes. Palabras clave: Jules Verne; odisea moderna; literatura fantástica; ciencia ficción; distopía.Abstract: This article tries to remember the important role played by Jules Verne in modern fantastic literature. His Extraordinary Voyages modernizes the classic odyssey and, thanks to the incorporation of science and the importance it attaches to verisimilitude in the fantastic literature, creates science fiction, while creating a fantastic literature based not on terror, as was common in his time, but on fascination. Utopia is a very old genre but it does not happen the same to dystopia, which owes much to the writer of Nantes. Keywords: Jules Verne; modern odyssey; fantastic literature; Science fiction; dystopia. INTRODUCCIÓNEs incuestionable que hoy Jules Verne no tiene la presencia que tuvo hace 150 años. Tal vez sea lógico dadas las circunstancias: un contexto diferente, nuevas preocupaciones, nuevos temas, nuevas formas literarias, nuevos medios de comunicación… * Este trabajo se ha realizado en el marco del Proyecto de Investigación La metáfora como componente de la retórica cultural. This article examines the nature of George Orwell's Tory anarchism, a term that he used to describe himself until his experiences in Spain in 1936. The argument developed here says that the qualities that Orwell felt made him a Tory anarchist remained with him throughout his life, even after his commitment to democratic socialism. In fact, many of those qualities (fear of an all‐powerful state, respect for privacy, support for common sense and decency, patriotism) connect the two aspects of his character. The article explains what the idea of a Tory anarchist means, describing it as a practice rather than a coherent political ideology, and moves on to examine the relationship between Eric Blair, the Tory anarchist, and George Orwell, the democratic socialist. It makes the case for his Tory anarchism by drawing out recurring themes in his work that connect him to other Tory anarchist figures such as his contemporary Evelyn Waugh. Thus Tory anarchism is presented as a conservative moral critique of the modern world that can connect figures who hold quite radically different political beliefs.
