Orwell Field: Case History of a Low-Cost Subsea Development in the Southern North Sea

Abstract

This paper presents an overview of the development of the Orwell gas field in the UK Southern North Sea. The production of first gas from the field in early August 1993, only 18 months after starting conceptual design and 13 months after receiving UK Government approval, has set a North Sea record in’ fast track developments, and highlighted the benefits of combining existing drilling and subsea technology.
