Osmundacetone Alleviates Cerebral Ischemia–Reperfusion Injury in Rats

Bowen Li,
Wentao Yu,
Lan Yang

Abstract: Osmundacetone (DHBAc) is an antioxidant compound that has been shown to have neuroprotective and immunomodulatory activities. However, few studies have estimated its effect on cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. In this study, we investigated the protective effect of DHBAc on the brain tissue of rats with cerebral I/R injury. Rats were respectively given nimodipine (NI), low dose (L-DHBAc) and high dose (H-DHBAc) Osmundacetone, and they were killed under anesthesia after 24 hours of reperfusion. And ne… Show more

“… Rhein, an anthraquinone, exerts neuroprotective effects by regulating the NRF2/SLC7A11/GPX4 pathway, inhibiting ferroptosis during IRI following a stroke in murine models [ 84 ]. Osmundacetone [ 85 ], a natural antioxidant, and Ruscogenin [ 86 ], a steroidal sapogenin, have shown effectiveness in reducing the IRI in stroke models in rats by increasing the concentration of Nrf2 mRNA, HO-1, and NQO1. Osmundacetone has also decreased Keap1 and caspase 3 [ 85 ].…”

Crebabine, an alkaloid with neuroprotective effects, was shown to be effective in a murine model of stroke, reducing cerebral damage by suppressing NADPH and NOX2 activity and through the inhibition of the NF-κB and MAPK pathways [ 87 ].…”
