Osseointegration of Ti6Al4V alloy implants coated with titanium nitride by a new method

Abstract: A fter cemented total hip arthroplasty (THA) there may be failure at either the cement-stem or the cement-bone interface. This results from the occurrence of abnormally high shear and compressive stresses within the cement and excessive relative micromovement. We therefore evaluated micromovement and stress at the cement-bone and cement-stem interfaces for a titanium and a chromium-cobalt stem. The behaviour of both implants was similar and no substantial differences were found in the size and distribution of m… Show more

“…The affinity of bone for the implant index of TiN-coated stainless steel was comparable to that of alumina, but not significantly better than uncoated stainless steel (Hayashi et al, 1989). TiN-coated Ti6Al4V rods were implanted in rat femurs and showed biocompatibility and bonebonding properties similar to uncoated Ti6Al4V rods (Sovak et al, 2000). Relative bone area and BIC of TiN-coated cp titanium threaded implants in rabbits were similar to TiO 2 -coated cp titanium (Larsson et al, 2013).…”

“…Одним из перспективных направлений ис-следований в этой области остается разработка и внедрение в клиническую практику биоинерт-ных покрытий, снижающих риск развития воз-можных осложнений остеосинтеза. В ряде ис-следований и соответствующих публикациях была подтверждена эффективность и безопас-ность покрытия имплантатов нитридами сверх-твердых металлов [2,3,17], которые обладают биосовместимостью и обеспечивают адекват-ную остеоинтеграцию [18]. Эти покрытия харак-…”

“…Ti-6Al-4V (Ti64) has been use for biomaterials due to its good biocompatibility [1][2][3]. Therefore, the combination use with the conventional stainless steel of SUS316L (SUS) is increasing due to accidental misuse in emergency cases or necessary choice of stainless wire to tie up bone fragments in complicated fracture and femoral mid shaft fracture after Total Hip Arthroplasty.…”
