Osseoperception in Dental Implants: A Systematic Review

Abstract: Patients restored with implant-supported prostheses reported improved tactile and motor function when compared with patients wearing complete dentures.

“…The clinical implications of these findings are that they raise the possibility that in patients treated with implant‐supported prostheses, the increased activation of S1 may reflect increased somatosensory inputs from peri‐implant tissues such as bone, periosteum, muscles and joints which can improve tactile and stereognostic sensibilities (i.e. osseoperception) .
