Bearse, in 1924, reported 2 cases of acute osteomyelitis of the ilium in which he had treated the patients. He concluded : "If the ilium is perforated, incision and drainage is sufficient ; with no per¬ foration or unsatisfactory bone drainage, trephine operation of the ilium should be done.…”

Young (1934), in his review of osteomyelitis of the ilium, to which he added three cases of his own, stated that "acute osteomyelitis of the pubis and ischium is so rare it is hardly necessary to give it consideration".…”
