Autorzy przedstawiają, na przykładzie dwóch mikrostudiów, możliwości i ograniczenia prowadzenia badań z zakresu historii elektronicznych mediów audiowizualnych z użyciem repertuarowej bazy danych. Oba studia przypadków zawierają element komparatystyczny. Pierwszy przykład dotyczy kina i stanowi porównanie repertuarów Łodzi i Krakowa z 1959 r., ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem filmów Bergmana. Drugi zaś jest porównawczym spojrzeniem na ramówki Telewizji Polskiej w kolejnych dekadach, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem repertuarów świąt Bożego Narodzenia. Oba studia przypadków są poprzedzone krótkimi wstępami teoretycznymi, wprowadzającymi w styl myślenia, który (jeszcze) nie upowszechnił się w polskim filmoznawstwie.
