“…The disease is prevalent in poorly-resourced pastoralist populations who use dogs to look after their herds ( Hotez et al, 2007 ; Molyneux et al, 2011 ; WHO, 2013b ) especially in regions with poor sanitary conditions where slaughtering of livestock and game is conducted without veterinary inspection or supervision ( Moro and Schantz, 2009 ; Rojas et al, 2014 ).
