“…These may cause reduction of blood flow in the mucosa or wall of the intestinal tract, leading to ischemia. In the present study, patients with hypertension (61%), chronic constipation (58.5%), and history of abdominal surgery (43.9%) exhibited higher prevalence of ischemic colitis, which are consistent with previous reports [19,20] . Tohda et al [7] detected the correlation between arteriosclerosis and ischemic colitis using pulse wave velocity (PWV) as an indicator related to vascular factors, and reported higher PWV levels for the elderly.…”

“…There are conflicting results with regard to the relationship between the medical history of patients and the severity of IC. High blood pressure, history of cancer, diabetes mellitus, aortic surgery, peripheral vascular disease and involvement of the right side of the colon have been suggested by some authors to be predisposing factors for a worse evolution of the disease [30][31][32] . In the study by Anon et al [33] , factors predicting poor prognosis in ischemic colitis were the absence of hematochezia, tachycardia and peritonism, anemia, hyponatremia and colonic stenosis.…”

“…Few studies have analyzed the factors associated with severe outcome in IC (10,(13)(14)(15). Initial hemodynamic instability, coexisting medical diseases, hypertension and history of cancer have been connected with the severe form.…”
