In a chart review of 130 early discharge mothers, Mehl et al (1976) found only 2 women who had required rehospitalization: one for endometritis, which is an inflammation of the lining of the inner surface of the uterus, and one for delayed postpartum hemorrhage. During one year of an early discharge program Scupholme (1981) reported that only one mother out of 35 needed to be treated and the reason was for a urinary tract infection.…”
