Abstract: Background Hoarseness is one of the classical symptoms in patients with locally advanced thoracic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), and it results from recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy, which is caused by nodal metastasis along the recurrent laryngeal nerve or by main tumors.
