“…The risk of experiencing an adverse cardiac event is proportional to the degree of symptoms and/or the degree of LVOT obstruction prior to pregnancy. Limited retrospective and observational data have shown that the incidence of maternal death in individuals with HCM was low at 0.2%, with a similarly low occurrence of neonatal death (0.2%) [ 20 ]. Family planning and pre-pregnancy counseling are especially important for women with HCM, as 40–60% of individuals have an identifiable genetic etiology of disease that is largely inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern.…”

“…In the ROPAC registry, the rate of the composite endpoint of mortality and/or heart failure among cardiomyopathy patients was 28.3% and was highest in the dilated cardiomyopathy cohort compared with hypertrophic and other cardiomyopathy patients 5. Recently, a systematic review on pregnant patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy reported high frequency of non-fatal cardiovascular events but low rate of mortality (0.18%); still 10-fold higher than the general population in the USA 6. Since patients with cardiomyopathy can tolerate pregnancy in a heterogeneous manner, the subtype of cardiomyopathy is of major importance for the maternal outcome.…”

“…Collectively, syncope occurred in 9% ( n = 26) of pregnancies, ventricular tachycardia (sustained and nonsustained) in 6% ( n = 54), HF in 5% ( n = 43), and atrial fibrillation in 4% ( n = 22). The incidence of maternal death was 0.2% [35 ▪▪ ]. Another recently published study examined outcomes for sixty pregnancies in forty-one patients with a prepregnancy history of HCM [36].…”
