“…A literature search has identified only four studies which specifically analysed voice outcomes of T1b cancer patients treated with TLM. Lombardo et al had 30, Song et al 21, Lee et al 7 and Taylor et al in a multicentre Canadian study had 21 in their studies 3,4,7,8 . This demonstrates the scarcity of our knowledge in this specific patient group.…”

“…Evidence demonstrates that TLM offers oncological outcomes which are at least equivalent to those offered with RT. 7,8 Gioacchani et al 9 demonstrated this further in a systematic review specifically considering T1b cancers.…”

“…Therefore, in these cases, even if it causes poorer functional results, it is recommended to resect the corresponding cartilaginous framework, to achieve a tumor free margin, and thus reduce the recurrence rate [10]. Table 3 compares the present study, which uses FVPL to studies employing various methods for the treatment of T1b glottic cancer published between 1997 and 2018 [10,[16][17][18][19][20][21].…”

“…In a useful paper with substantial long-term results, Song et al . evaluated the oncological and voice outcomes of transoral laser microsurgery for T 1b glottic cancer patients 7 . The study revealed relatively high rates of oncological control and acceptable voice outcomes, showing its utility as a primary treatment modality for T 1b glottic cancer.…”
