Outcomes on the Spray Profiles Produced by the Feasible Adjustments of Commonly Used Sprayers in “Tendone” Vineyards of Apulia (Southern Italy)

Abstract: Abstract:The objective of the research was to assess the outcomes on the spray patterns produced by the different feasible adjustments of two different air blast sprayers and one mist blower sprayer, commonly employed for treatments to Apulian "tendone" vineyards. The spray profiles of these machines and the respective refinements affected by the alteration of the available adjusting devices were evaluated using a test bench, suitably set up for calibrating the sprayers used inside such vines. The air blast sp… Show more

“…The tendone trellis system comprises a tall stake at each vine with two orthogonal steel wires attached 1.7-1.8 m above ground level, and a grid of steel wires supporting the shoots. Each vine has a 1.2-1.4 m tall trunk, with two branches and two fruit-bearing shoots per branch, aligned orthogonally or parallel to the grid [70]. Despite being a widespread training system, recent scientific studies concerning various aspects of grape tendone systems are not very numerous [71][72][73][74][75] and only one uses data from a remote sensing platform (i.e., satellite data for evapotranspiration valuation) [76].…”

“…In any case, the spray liquid distribution is directly linked to the generated airflow pattern and the airflow characteristics [34,38]; therefore, an overall optimization of spray and airflow patterns generated by the airblast sprayers must be considered concurrently. To date, vertical patternators with discrete trays allow a proper estimation of liquid spray patterns [36,61,[89][90][91][92] despite the noted limitations and with the adequate analysis of data relating the vertical profile and distribution in the canopy.…”

“…The research focuses on a new three-row beet top harvesting machine equipped with improved working devices which allow the machine to cut the beet tops and transport them into a loading chute [43][44][45][46]. In particular, the developed front-mounted beet top harvester is founded on the concept of a mower-shredder and is mounted on a wheeled tractor (Figure 1a), from which it receives motion and power by means of a cardan universal joint (7 in Figure 1b) linked to the power take-off of the tractor itself.…”
