Abstract: Conventional push-pull modulated (PPM) distributed feedback (DFB) lasers exploit structures with symmetry, which wastes a significant amount of the optical power output from the rear facet. To improve the power efficiency, PPM DFB lasers with asymmetrically coated facets can be considered.
