Overcoming challenges in BIM and gaming integration: the case of a hospital project

Abstract: Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a valuable technology for design in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry. Creating BIM-based computer games is a new application area of BIM technology that can provide an additional dimension to its utility by allowing facility users and designers to 'visit' the facility before it is completed. Scholars report that BIM games can be used in various areas such as construction site safety, building operation and design. Besides, games can aid in com… Show more

“…In addition, multiple tasks in a principal–agent experiment (Fehr & Schmidt, 2004) offer insight into how the principal–agent relationship is applicable in the gaming situation modeling authority and followers, including the conflicting missions of the principal and agent (Fraja & Delbono, 1990). Explanations of the organization of transactions within a game have been used to agency theory to describe influences and implications of the principal and agent relationship (Figueres-Munoz & Merschbrock, 2015; Thavikulwat, Chang, & Sanford, 2013). These influences within games are comparable with actual real-world situations in organizations where principals and agents are interacting while using strategies that will minimize their risk and maximize their utility.…”

“…Reapplication of textures, heaviness of the models generated in BIM authoring tools in the rendering and VE navigation, manually re-entering information to gaming engines, and interoperability between the BIM authoring tools and the gaming engines are highly referred challenges in the literature (e.g. Nopachinda, Ergan 2016;Shen et al 2007Shen et al , 2012Dalton, Parfitt 2013;Figueres-Munoz, Merschbrock 2015;Bille et al 2014).…”

“…Это подразумевает, что пользователь имеет контроль над точкой обзора, которая является основой любой VR-системы. Виртуальная реальность берет свое начало в индустрии развлечений, однако получила значительное развитие в проектировании, машиностроении и образовании [7]. Основываясь на тенденци-ях, можно проследить нарастающий интерес к технологии VR и в строительстве [8,9].…”
