Overloaded phase-code multiplexing for volume holographic storage

Abstract: Overloaded phase codes for volume holographic data storage are introduced. In contrast to any previous phase-code design, overloaded phase codes enable multiplexing of a number of data pages that exceeds the number of utilized reference beams. In this way the achievable data capacity can be augmented. Overloaded codes are generated by extending multilevel phase codes based on the discrete Fourier transform. We demonstrate multiplexing of 70 analog pages by means of 64 reference beams. The analysis of reconstru… Show more

“…This would be within the spatial extent of Pollack's exclusion zones [10,12], as well as within the Bohr's spatial limit for thinking and consciousness [43]. Additionally, if you were to take the intensity of the magnetic field generated by the electron rotating around a Bohr atom, with an intensity of ~10 5 T, the resultant separation would be in the order of 10 -11 m, or with the spatial extent of the Bohr radius.…”

“…Our provided example dealt with the idea that spatial degrees of freedom correspond to a degree of space-like phase modulations. Classically, however, phase modulation is more generally described as a change in the distance between successive peaks or troughs, of a given wave, and is most widely employed as a means of optical or fiber optic communication and information transfer [2,5]. This then directly implicates the photon as the primary mode by which to carrier the information contained in a series of phase modulations.…”

“…To overcome the storage density limitation determined by the diffraction limit of light, many new techniques, such as holographic storage [1,2], nearfield storage [3][4][5], and two-photon (2P) 3D storage [6,7], have been intensively researched in the past decades. Because of its high spacial resolution, 2P excitation data storage by focusing intense laser pulses inside the medium has shown great potential to achieve high volume density.…”
