Abstract:Over the past few years, the use of synchrotron light sources has continued to grow rapidly. Several new facilities are in various phases of development. This paper provides an overview of the new facilities that have been proposed, have started construction, or are being commissioned throughout the world. Several trends in the design and specification of these facilities are reviewed, and possible future directions of light source evolution are examined.
