Oxidation Removal of Nitric Oxide from Flue Gas Using UV Photolysis of Aqueous Hypochlorite

Abstract: The oxidation removal of nitric oxide (NO) from flue gas using UV photolysis of aqueous hypochlorite (Ca(ClO) and NaClO) in a photochemical spraying reactor was studied. The key parameters (e.g., light intensity, hypochlorite concentration, solution temperature, solution pH, and concentration of NO, SO, O, and CO), mechanism and kinetics of NO oxidation removal were investigated. The results demonstrate that UV and hypochlorite have a significant synergistic role for promoting the production of hydroxyl radica… Show more

“…HHg0,L,x were calculated by the methods/correlations which were described in the references; DHg0,L,x were calculated using the Wilke‐Chang empirical equation; kHg0,L,x, kHg0,G,x, and aHg0,x were measured using Danckwerts‐plot‐theory and chemical methods . The described measurement and calculation methods can be seen in the Supporting Information.…”

“…On the basis of the rate Eq. , the double‐film theory and the previous results, for a fast reaction, the rate equations of Hg 0 oxidation removal using heat/Fe 2+ /PMS/H 2 O 2 , heat/Mn 2+ /PMS/H 2 O 2 , heat/Fe 2+ /PMS, and heat/Mn 2+ /PMS removal systems can be described as the following expression (29) (a more detailed derivation process for expression (29) can be found in supplementary materials): NHg0,x=(2DHg0,L,xkovmx,mx,nx,hx,lxCHg0,i,xmx+1mx+1)1/2 where NHg0,x represents the Hg 0 absorption rate in heat/Fe 2+ /PMS/H 2 O 2 , heat/Mn 2+ /PMS/H 2 O 2 , heat/Fe 2+ /PMS, or heat/Mn 2+ /PMS removal systems, mol/m 2 ⋅s; DHg0,L,x represents the liquid phase diffusion coefficient for Hg 0 , m 2 /s.…”
