Oxidative Dealkylation of Alkylaromatic Hydrocarbons. Naphthalene as Product in Vapor-Phase Air Oxidations of Monomethylnaphthalenes and Dimethylnaphthalenes over Vanadia

Abstract: In the solvent extraction flowsheet shown in Figure 5, 0.2M HNOa is used to strip strontium from the organic phase. Alternatively, partition column conditions (Figure 1) can be used. This latter method provides even further decontamination from Ce144.

“…Correlation of Experimental Results. Experimental design and statistical methods for investigating chemical reactions for their optimum conditions, described by Davies (7), applied by Franklin (3), and mechanistically interpreted by Pinchbeck (9), were used to study and correlate the effects of the major selective oxidative reaction variables upon naphthalene yields and conversions from 1 -methylnaphthalene over cadmía-silica catalyst. The variables chosen for our gasliquid chromatographic-microreactor studies are shown below to be linearly related to those studied by Franklin (3) for optimum phthalic anhydride production from naphthalene over vanadia in air.…”
