Oxidative Desulfurization of Model Oil over Au/Ti-MWW

Abstract: Au/Ti-MWW catalysts were prepared by the impregnation of HAuCl 4 on Ti-MWW. Its structure and properties were characterized by X-ray diffraction, N 2 adsorption and UV-visible. The oxidation reactions of thiophene (TH), benzothiophene (BT), dibenzothiophene (DBT) and 4,6-dimethyl-dibenzothiophene (DMDBT) were investigated at mild reaction conditions using H 2 O 2 as oxidant. The results showed that Au loading could significantly promote the activity of Ti-MWW for oxidative desulfurization.

“…Consequently, efforts are being devoted to the development of processes using highly robust and recyclable catalysts that provide higher atom use and minimized pollution levels using greener ingredients. In recent years, the selective oxidation of S-containing compounds by H 2 O 2 has been carried out using a large number of redox solid catalysts such as Ti, 107,[198][199][200][201][202][203] V, [204][205][206] W, [207][208][209][210] Mo, 106,210 Co/Mn, 211 Ag, 212 Au, 213 Re. 214 5.4.2 Challenges for ODS.…”

“…Titanosilicates present excellent catalytic performance as heterogeneous catalysts in the catalytic oxidative desulfurization reaction due to their high specific surface areas, uniform pores, and unique thermal stability . Various titanosilicates, including TiO 2 -SiO 2 , Ti-SBA-2, Ti-SBA-15, Ti-SBA-16, Ti-MCM-41, Ti-MWW, Au/Ti-MWW, hierarchical TS-1, Ag/TS-1, hierarchical Ti-Beta, Ti-HMS, Ti-MSU, and Ti-modified hierarchical mordenite (Ti/MM) have been applied as catalysts in the ODS process. Wei et al investigated the desulfurization of model oil in the presence of Ti-containing mesoporous materials uniformly incorporated with methyl (C1-HMS-x) and without methyl (Ti-HMS-x) as catalysts and H 2 O 2 as an oxidant.…”

“…Au loading can increase the activity of Ti-MWW for the desulfurization of model oil. DBT conversion was promoted from 60% to 84% using an H 2 O 2 oxidizing agent and a 0.05% Au-Ti-MWW catalyst . Three catalysts of TS-1, Ti-HMS (a hexagonal mesoporous molecular sieve), and Ti-MSU (long-worm-like pores) were used in the oxidative desulfurization of model oil in the presence of H 2 O 2 .…”

“…This is due to the low cost of ODS and it can be carried out under very mild conditions. As a kind of ODS technique [8][9][10], the photocatalytic ODS is also an attracting method [2,11].…”
