Abstract:The first, oxidative photocatalytic method for phenol-phenol homo-coupling and cross-coupling is described and isolated yields of up to 97% are obtained. Measured oxidation potentials and computed nucleophilicity parameters are consistent with a nucleophilic attack of one partner onto the oxidized radical form of the other partner. Understanding of this model permitted development of cross-coupling reactions between nucleophilic phenols/arenes and easily oxidized phenols in high selectivity and efficiency. A h… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
