Purpose Previous studies have indicated that OxS (oxidative stress) may appear as a possible reason for poor ART outcome. Our aim was to study OxS levels in both partners of couples seeking Assisted reproduction Technology (ART). Methods Altogether 79 couples were recruited. Oxidative DNA damage (8-OHdG) and lipid peroxidation (8-EPI) were measured, and clinical background and ART outcomes were recorded. Results Both OxS markers accurately reflected clincal conditions with prominent negative effects attributable to genital tract infections, endometriosis, uterine myoma and smoking. Furthermore, the level of OxS was also affected by partner's state of health. The highest 8-EPI levels were detected in both partners when biochemically detectable pregnancies did not develop into clinically detectable pregnancies (in women, 97, 8±16,7 vs 72.9±22,9, p=0.007; in men, 89.6±20,4 vs 72,1± 22,6, p=0.049). Conclusions To conclude, high grade systemix OxS in both partners may negatively affect the maintenance and outcome of pregnancy. Applying the detection of OxS in ART patients may select patients with higher success rate and/or those who require antioxidant therapy. This would lead to improvement of ART outcome as well as natural fertility.

Objective: The purpose of this case report is to describe the resolution of pain in a patient with chronic prostatitis and chronic pelvic pain syndrome after receiving a course of management using acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. Clinical features: A 35-year-old man presented with chronic prostatitis with chronic pelvic pain syndrome. He scored 38 out of a possible 43 on the National Institutes of Health/Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index (NIH/CPSI) that rates pain, urinary symptoms, and quality of life impact, indicating severe symptoms. The patient had experienced recurrent episodes of nonbacterial prostatitis over a 3-year period, and this was the most severe. Intervention and outcome: After 8 acupuncture treatments over an 8-week period and daily use of Ba Zheng San and Yi Guan Jian, the patient scored his symptoms 9 on the NIH/CPSI. The patient was then put on a supportive anti-inflammatory regimen of green tea. He rated his symptoms 4 on the NIH/CPSI 4 months later, 2 on the NIH/CPSI 8 months later, and 0 on the NIH/CPSI 1 year later. Conclusion: This case demonstrated that the patient experienced long-lasting relief from chronic prostatitis with chronic pelvic pain syndrome after a course of 8 treatments of acupuncture and Chinese herbs.

Inflammation is pivotal in the pathogenesis and progression of the most challenging diseases and even cancer. Nanomedicine‐based strategy can be referred as a distinct solution to this complicated clinical obstacle by proposing an elaborated combination of effective therapeutic performances on inflammation and cancer. Herein, 2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidine‐1‐oxyl doped polydopamine nanoparticles, termed as TPDA NPs, with the significantly improved reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (RO/NSs) scavenging performance and enhanced photothermal efficiency are designed and synthesized by constructing donor‐acceptor pairs, for prostate diseases treatment including anti‐inflammation and anti‐tumor. Benefiting from mimicking multi‐natural enzymes, including superoxide dismutase, catalase, peroxidase, and glutathione peroxidase, TPDA NPs can inhibit the NF‐κB signaling pathways by downregulating the CD36 expression for the treatment of oxidative stress‐induced prostatitis. Especially, TPDA NPs can improve the prostatitis‐associated impairment of sexual behavior. By virtue of the enhanced photothermal‐conversion efficiency, TPDA NPs ablate prostate cancer and simultaneously decrease inflammatory reaction. Therefore, this work provides a “three birds with one shot” paradigm to utilize rationally designed TPDA NPs for efficient management of prostate diseases.
