“…This was ascribed to the thinness of the air-formed film. Watkins et al 51 followed the formation of a passivating oxide layer on U(92%)-Nb(6%) alloy films, by NR and XRR measurements, both at early oxidation and after one year. Combined analyses by NR, XRR, SEM/EDX, and X-ray diffraction revealed that the film consisted of a 30−35 nm UO 2 top-layer and an inner Nb 2 O 5 layer.…”
