“…The general chemical formula is Me +3 Mе +2 2 BO 5 . Metal ions can be present as one ion with a different valence (homometallic) , and various ions (heterometallic) . Metal ions (bivalent ‐ Mg, Ni, Zn, Co, Fe, trivalent ‐ Al, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ga, Co, tetravalent ‐ Mn, Sn, Ge, Zr, Ti, and even pentavalent ‐ Sb, Nb) are located in the center of the oxygen octahedral coordination with common edges.…”

“…Meanwhile, the combination of the flexible coordination geometries for both Ge and B atoms will afford abundant new structural types. A series of new metal or organically templated borogermanates have been synthesized during the past 2 decades. Among them, many alkali- or alkaline-earth-metal borogermanates possess noncentrosymmetric structures and are able to exhibit a short absorption edge in the UV range and moderate SHG responses. For instance, Rb 2 GeB 4 O 9 exhibits a SHG response of 2.0 × KH 2 PO 4 (KDP) with a band gap of 5.54 eV, and CsGeB 3 O 7 a SHG response of 1.5 × KDP with a band gap of 5.76 eV. , c For borogermanates, the overall SHG response mainly originated from the B–O anionic group, while the Ge–O polyhedron contributes less.…”

“…In the present study, we confirmed Mg 5 TiO 4 (BO 3 ) 2 as isostructural with the mineral ludwigite (Mg 2 FeO 2 BO 3 , orthorhombic, space group Pbam) and analysed its crystal structure. Synthetic oxyborates having the ludwigite structure are, for example, (Stenger et al, 1973;Armbruster & Lager, 1985), V (Bluhm & Mü ller-Buschbaum, 1989a), Mn (Bluhm & Mü ller-Buschbaum, 1989a), Ge (Bluhm & Mü ller-Buschbaum, 1989b) and Zr (Bluhm & Mü ller-Buschbaum, 1989b) (Stenger et al, 1973), Mn (Utzolino & Bluhm, 1996) and Sn (Utzolino & Bluhm, 1996)] and Zn 5 MnO 4 (BO 3 ) 2 (Busche & Bluhm, 1995).…”
