“…In most of the studies identified in this review, clinical populations included individuals with obesity, and this population shows a reported prevalence of FA ranging between 20% and 40% (Meule & Gearhardt, 2019; Pérez et al, 2018), as identified in the present meta‐analysis (38%). Fuentes et al (2017) and Gabler et al (2015) point to a higher prevalence of FA in Chilean patients who are candidates for bariatric surgery (50% and 43%, respectively) compared with results reported for similar samples in Portugal (25.8%), Germany (39.2%), France (39%), Israel (40%), and Australia (12.7%) (Ben‐Porat et al, 2022; Dickhut et al, 2021; Som et al, 2022; Stanley et al, 2022; Torres et al, 2017). It should be noted that a positive diagnosis of FA in this population is associated with less weight loss after dietary intervention (Pérez et al, 2018).…”

“…The reported prevalence of YFAS-assessed FA amongst cross-cultural bariatric surgery samples ranges from 13.7 to 57.8% across Caucasian, African-American, Canadian, French, German, Chilean, Hispanic, Italian, and Turkish samples (Ames et al, 2017; Bianciardi et al, 2019; Brunault et al, 2016; Clark & Saules, 2013; Eichen, Lent, Goldbacher, & Foster, 2013; Fuentes, Gabler, Silva, Olguin, & Rodriguez, 2017; Gabler, Fuentes, Rodríguez, Barbosa, & Zarazua, 2015; Koball et al, 2016; Lawson et al, 2019; Meule, Heckel, & Kübler, 2012; Miller-Matero et al, 2014; Ouellette et al, 2017; Pepino, Stein, Eagon, & Klein, 2014; Sevinçer, Konuk, Bozkurt, & Coşkun, 2016). After a review of the literature, the reason for the variability remains unclear.…”
