P(DADMAAC‐co‐DMAA): Synthesis, thermal stability, and kinetics

Abstract: The kinetics of copolymerization is one of the key factors for optimization the process in large scale of production. Copolymerization of N, N‐dimethyl‐N,N‐diallyammonium chloride (DMDAAC) with N,N‐dimethyl acrylamide (DMAA) was studied by a dilatometer technique using ammonium persulfate ([NH4]2S2O8) as an initiator. The effect of the parameters (including molar ratio of DMDAAC to DMAA, concentrations of monomers [M] and initiator [I], and the temperature) on the polymerization rate was analyzed. From these a… Show more

“…Like-charged monomers repel each other when they approaching, which makes it difficult for them to interact with each other closely enough to react. The relatively low reactivity of the DADMAC monomer in radical copolymerization reactions with dimethylacrylamide, acrylonitrile, itaconic and fumaric acids, and 4-vinylpyridine was noted in several works [ 53 , 54 , 59 , 60 , 61 , 62 , 63 , 64 ].…”

“…From Figure 8 and Figure 9 , the single- and dual-impeller experiments with full baffle achieved the highest αΚ* values, meaning that the rate of gas consumption for CH 4 hydrate formation with full baffle (no central vortex through the hours after induction time) was the fastest, but does not mean that the amount of CH 4 hydrate formed was the largest among the other three single or dual groups of experiments [ 28 , 29 , 30 , 31 ]. This fact takes place because with full-baffle experiments there is still time for hydrate formation (straight line and no curve which means that, in a short period, there will be hydrate stabilization and then hydrate dissociation).…”

“…The initial concentration of monomer is very important for hydrogel conversion, because a large number of radicals determines the degree of polymerization [ 31 ]. Figure 1 indicates the conversion dependency on the reaction time at different monomer concentrations.…”
