BackgroundProbiotic yeast has become a field of interest to scientists in recent years.MethodsConventional cultural method was employed to isolate and identify yeast and standard methods were used to determine different probiotic attributes, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.ResultsThis study reports potential probiotic properties of a strain of S. cerevisiae IFST 062013 isolated from fruit. The isolate is tolerant to a wide range of temperature and pH, high concentration of bile salt and NaCl, gastric juice, intestinal environment, α-amylase, trypsin and lysozyme. It can produce organic acid and showed resistance against tetracycline, ampicillin, gentamycin, penicillin, polymixin B and nalidixic acid. It can assimilate cholesterol, can produce killer toxin, vitamin B12, glutathione, siderophore and strong biofilm. It showed moderate auto-aggregation ability and cell surface hydrophobicity. The isolate can produce enzymes such as amylase, protease, lipase, cellulose, but unable to produce galactosidase. The isolate can’t produce gelatinase and DNase. The isolate showed moderate anti-microbial activity against bacteria and fungi and cell lysate showed better antimicrobial activity than whole cell and culture supernatant. Again, the isolate showed better anti-bacterial activity against gram negative bacteria than gram positive. The isolate showed strong antioxidant activity, reducing power, nitric oxide and hydroxyl radical scavenging activity, significant brine shrimp cytotoxicity and acute toxicity and metal ion chelating activity. The isolate did not induce any detectable change in general health of mice upon oral toxicity testing and found to be safe in mouse model. The isolate improve lymphocyte proliferation and cytokine production in treated mice.ConclusionsSuch isolate could be potential as probiotic to be used therapeutically.

This narrative review aims to summarize non-pharmacological interventions for pain management in hemodialysis patients, assessing their potential benefits and limitations in enhancing patient well-being and quality of life. We reviewed the current literature on five primary non-pharmacological interventions: acupuncture, cognitive behavioral therapy, relaxation techniques, virtual reality, and alternative methods such as transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, music therapy, and aromatherapy. We analyzed the evidence regarding their effectiveness, feasibility, and optimal implementation strategies. The existing evidence supports the potential benefits of these interventions in managing pain and improving the well-being of hemodialysis patients. However, further high-quality research is needed to confirm their effectiveness, establish implementation best practices, and assess their long-term impact on patient outcomes. Non-pharmacological interventions hold promise for pain management in hemodialysis patients. Additional research is required to optimize these interventions and validate their effectiveness, contributing to comprehensive pain management strategies for this vulnerable patient population.

Objective: To investigate the therapeutic properties of local Thai herbs and ingredients, assess the scientific evidence on Thai traditional medicine, explore the cultural significance and traditional knowledge, analyze the potential of Thai herbs in post-pandemic wellness, and examine the role of Thai traditional medicine in medical tourism and its contribution to SDG 3.Material and Methods: This article presents a comprehensive and rigorous critical review of the literature conducted systematically, including thorough data extraction, systematic search, and analysis of relevant studies. Results: The literature review explores the results of various studies on the efficacy and safety of local Thai herbs and ingredients and the potential impacts of medical tourism on sustainability. The review reveals that Thai traditional medicine, incorporating practices, demonstrates promising therapeutic benefits for conditions such as inflammation and respiratory infections. However, challenges exist in terms of standardization and regulation, necessitating further research in order to establish safety and efficacy. While medical tourism benefits Thailand economically, concerns arise regarding social inequalities and environmental impacts. Integrating traditional medicine into medical tourism and adopting sustainable practices can mitigate any adverse effects. These findings highlight the importance of investments in research, education, technology, and sustainable tourism practices that promote traditional medicine, enhance patient care, and position Thailand as a leader in post-pandemic wellness and sustainable development.Conclusion: The discussion emphasizes the need for continued research, education, and regulation in order to promote the integration of traditional medicine into the healthcare system, enhance the safety and efficacy of its practices, and position Thailand as a leader in medical tourism and post-pandemic wellness.
