Abstract

The newborn was well and presented no problems in the postnatal period. On the 12 th day of life neonatal ultrasound showed a cyst measuring 8.1 × 7 × 3.6 cm on the right side of the abdomen. At 122 days of life a laparotomy revealed a cyst of 8cm with a broad base attached to the left lobe of the liver. A partial excision with marsupilization of the cyst wall was performed. On histological examination, the capsule of the cyst was found to consist of fibrous tissue with no specific epithelium lining the cyst wall. Based on this case, we suggest that congenital cyst of the liver be considered in the differential diagnosis of large cystic masses in fetuses.
