P2Y Receptors Regulate Proliferation of Human Pancreatic Duct Epithelial Cells

Abstract: Extracellular nucleotides increase proliferation of human pancreatic duct epithelial cells by activation of P2Y(1) and P2Y(6) receptors. This provides the basic model for the effect of P2Y receptors on the proliferation of pancreatic duct epithelial cells.

“…Pancreatic duct epithelial cells were pretreated with different inhibitors of signaling pathway that may mediate the increase of proliferation by P2Y 2 receptor. 1,11,13,14,16,19 As shown in Figure 4 Recent studies showed that Akt serine/threonine kinase is a key component of proliferative pathway in pancreatic cancer cells, breast cancer cells, and osteoblastic cells. 33Y35 To determine whether Akt is modulated by P2Y 2 receptor, UTP (10 Kmol/L) was applied to PANC-1 cells for 5 minutes.…”

“…1 In addition, UTP, an agonist of the P2Y 2 and P2Y 4 receptors, exerted less proliferative activity than adenosine diphosphate and uridine diphosphate, and the expression level of P2Y 2 receptor mRNA was higher than those of other P2Y receptors. In this study, the proliferative role of the P2Y 2 receptor and proliferative signaling pathway in pancreatic duct epithelial cells were investigated.…”
