Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) has different clinical, epidemiological, and histopathologic manifestations among squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck entities. Since the last decade, the prevalence of NPC has been significantly increasing especially in children. NPC in children is closely related to Epstein-Barr virus infection and the most common histopathologic finding is the undifferentiated type. NPC is radiosensitive and chemo sensitive, so the combination of these treatments gives good result. However, the result of chemo radiation treatment depends on the staging of the tumor and the dose of the chemo radiation.
NPC treatment is given based on its staging. All steps of NPC patient management (diagnosing, staging, treatment, and follow-up) involve radio imaging, this makes radiology plays an important role. This paper is presented to emphasize the importance of accuracy in diagnosing and staging of NPC. To achieve 5-year survival rate, precise diagnosing and staging is required as a basis for therapy adjustment
