Paenibacillus xanthinilyticus sp. nov., isolated from agricultural soil

Abstract: A bacterial strain designated 11N27T was isolated from an agricultural soil sample. Cells of this strain were Gram-reaction-variable, facultatively anaerobic, endospore-forming, whitepigmented, peritrichously flagellated and hydrolysed xanthine. The major fatty acids of strain 11N27 T were anteiso-C 15 : 0 , iso-C 16 : 0 and C 16 : 0 . The polar lipid profile contained phosphatidylethanolamine, two unknown phospholipids, two unknown aminolipids, one unknown aminophospholipid and two unknown polar lipids. The G… Show more

“…At the time of writing in October 2019, there are over 249 recognized species and four subspecies (www.bacterio.net/paenibacillus.html) [2]. Species of the genus Paenibacillus have been isolated from diverse habitats, such as soil [3–6], fresh water [7, 8], human faeces [9], pit mud [10], saline silt [11], warm springs [12], lake sediment [13] and plant rhizosphere [14–16]. Members of the genus Paenibacillus share the common characteristics of having spore-forming cells containing menaquinone 7 as a major or sole respiratory quinone and anteiso-C 15 : 0 as the major fatty acid.…”

“…The DNA G+C content of the type strain is 53 mol%. (Smerda et al, 2006); 5, P. xanthinilyticus 11N27 T (Kim et al, 2015a); 6, P. oenotherae DT7-4 T (Kim et al, 2015b); 7, P. cellulosilyticus PALXIL08 T (Rivas et al, 2006); 8, P. kobensis IFO 15729 T (Dasman et al, 2002;Kanzawa et al, 1995); 9, P. nanensis MX2-3 T (Khianngam et al, 2009). All strains are catalase-positive; use D-glucose and trehalose dihydrate as organic substrates; and are negative for indole production and citrate utilization.…”
