Background: Pain in hospitalized adults is underestimated and undervalued. The aim of this study was to evaluate pain prevalence and satisfaction with the hospital’s pain management among patients attending a tertiary university hospital. Predictor factors of pain were also studied. Methods: A prospective, cross-sectional study was carried out through a structured questionnaire given on one day to all hospitalized patients in a university hospital. Clinical data, such as personal history and analgesic treatment, were collected from medical records. Other variables related to pain (including intensity rated by the visual analogue scale as well as location and patient satisfaction measured by the numerical rating scale) were also obtained. Results: Of the 274 surveyed patients, pain prevalence was 52.9%, with an average intensity of 5.3 ± 2.8 according to VAS. The overall satisfaction was 87.2%, and 72.6% had already been prescribed at least one analgesic. Patients receiving analgesics showed higher pain intensity (VAS 3.6 ± 3.4) than those without treatment (VAS 1.1 ± 2.1) (p < 0.001). However, patients with treatment showed more satisfaction (NRS 7.8 ± 2 vs. 5.3 ± 1.4, p < 0.001). Conclusions: The prevalence of pain in hospitalized patients was high, despite the fact that patient satisfaction was also very high.

Pasien yang melakukan operasi mengalami kerusakan jaringan akibat tindakan operasi dan menimbulkan nyeri. Nyeri yang dialami termasuk ke dalam jenis nyeri akut. Penanganan nyeri merupakan hal yang penting diperhatikan karena dapat memiliki dampak, seperti stres, kecemasan, depresi, serta menghambat penyembuhan. Perawat sebagai pemberi asuhan bertugas untuk memberikan intervensi secara optimal kepada pasien untuk melakukan manajemen nyeri. Penanganan nyeri utamanya menggunakan terapi farmakologis, Adapun terapi non farmakologis seringkali tidak digunakan dan dianggap bukan merupakan intervensi yang penting padahal terapi tersebut memiliki banyak manfaat. Di ruang bedah bimasakti, banyak pasien mengeluhkan nyeri karena tindakan pembedahan. Perawat ruangan lebih berfokus kepada penatalaksanaan manajemen nyeri secara farmakologis, sedangkan terapi non farmakologis belum dilakukan secara optimal. Selain itu, pemantauan nyeri belum dilakukan secara komprehensif. Meninjau penatalaksanaan terapi non farmakologis yang dilakukan oleh perawat di ruangan dan mengoptimalkannya. Pertama, pengadaan sosialisasi terkait manajemen nyeri, penggunaan alat pengkajian nyeri kepada perawat di ruangan menggunakan bahan ajar yang telah disusun. Kedua, pembuatan media leaflet yang informatif serta video edukasi terkait manajemen nyeri non farmakologi. Ketiga, pelaksanaan pendidikan kesehatan manajemen nyeri non farmakologi kepada pasien. Pemberian sosialisasi terkait manajemen nyeri non farmakologi dan penggunaan alat pengkajian nyeri kepada perawat ruangan meningkatkan pengetahuan dan meningkatkan kesadaran untuk menerapkan kedua hal tersebut. This study identified potential barriers and facilitators to the implementation of a medical device in the form of a mobile health (mHealth) application, (app) called PainChek®, by family carers of individuals with dementia in the Australian community setting. Focus groups and a phone interview took place with family carers and healthcare professionals. Data were analysed thematically. 6 family carers and 8 healthcare professionals participated across 2 focus groups and 1 phone interview. Themes related to the user, innovation/PainChek®, and contextual factors were identified. Barriers to use included age, physical limitations, cost, technical issues, misinterpretation of how PainChek® works, and influence of family. Facilitators included a willingness to use mHealth Apps and previous experience. Some themes acted as both barriers and facilitators depending on the situation such as the healthcare team's acceptance. Targeted interventions and support strategies, leveraging facilitators are essential to overcome barriers related to user, intervention, and context and to enhance successful PainChek® implementation, thereby improving pain management in individuals with dementia. Future research is recommended to develop effective implementation strategies to utilise the facilitators and overcome the barriers to improve the implementation of PainChek®.
