Abstract:PR treatment of plasma affects coagulation proteins and coagulant capacity. For the RF method this effect is most pronounced, although to some extent compensated by a smaller volume loss.
“…These authors speculated that washing reshapes platelets as would happen upon transfusion. They contemplate that conditioned storage media inhibit platelet function; however, in paired samples like ours, it seems unlikely that AS‐PCT media would inhibit more than control given the relatively low volumes added to fresh blood in our reconstitution experiment and the reported integrity of the remaining plasma fraction .…”

“…The loss of coagulation factors seen in FFP following PI treatment is well documented by several authors . The design of our study allowed the direct comparison of two PI methods, as well as accounting for dilution factors and volume losses.…”
MB-cryo contained a significantly higher content of FVIII and lower content of FXIII when compared to AS-cryo, with no difference in fibrinogen activity.
“…[34] One question was concerning a potential generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) during the INTERCEPT process. In contrast to other technologies, the generation of ROS is not an integral part of the mechanism of action for INTERCEPT and only minor amounts are generated [7,[14][15][16][17].…”

“…The INTERCEPT treatment process does not depend on reactive oxygen species (ROS) for its function, which represents another major difference to some other technologies currently available [14]. The absence of uncontrollable side-reactions that can occur due to ROS represents a desirable feature that preserves the quality of the treated component described by different authors [14,15].…”
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
