“…During this period (Phase I: 1976(Phase I: -1982 one catchment was cleared and burnt for the establishment of radiata pine in 1980 except for a 30-m wide riparian zone on either side of the stream where the original eucalypt forest was retained for the protection of water quality Stewart and Flinn, 1985). In the short-term this change in land use, clearing of eucalypt forest and establishment of radiata pine, increased annual water yield by approximately 3 ML/ha, but yield gradually decreased to pre-treatment values over time as the plantation occupied the site (Leitch and Flinn, 1986;Bren and Papworth, 1991;Bren and Hopmans, 2007). Only minor changes in water quality were observed, however exports of suspended solids and nutrients in stream water increased primarily due to higher water yield in response to clearing vegetation in the catchment (Hopmans et al, 1987).…”
