Abstract:<p>Fossil coccospheres provide a wealth of information on cellular traits that can be compared directly to the living coccosphere such as cell size. Cell size is critical to ecosystem dynamics and particle sinking which has implications on the carbon cycle. However, cell size reconstruction is hindered by the poor preservation of coccospheres as coccospheres often disintegrate into individual coccoliths. Although palaeoecological information can be attained from individual coccoliths, assumptions… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
