“…Currently, snoek inhabits the coastal waters of the cold temperate Southern Hemisphere with SST between 13°C and 18°C (Bianchi et al, ), including Chile (Bahamonde, ; Duarte et al, ), the western Atlantic coast of South Africa (Griffiths, 2002, ; Isaacs, ), the southern coast of Australia and the coast of New Zealand (Augé, Lalas, Davis, & Chilvers, ; Mehl, ). Nowadays, snoek is absent from the coasts of Argentina and the subantarctic waters of the Beagle Channel, where the SST is between 5°C and 10°C (Lloris & Rucabado, ; López et al, ; Zangrando, Ponce, et al, ). The presence of snoek in the Beagle Channel throughout the Late Holocene (Orquera & Piana, –1994; Tivoli & Zangrando, ; Zangrando, ; this work) strongly supports the hypothesis that SST was higher than currently during most of the Late Holocene.…”
