“…We sought to explore differential gene expression in lake trout ( Salvelinus namaycush ) to examine the molecular processes potentially underlying transgenerational responses to elevated temperatures. The lake trout is a long-lived, cold-adapted salmonid that is largely limited to cold, oligotrophic lakes in formerly glaciated regions of North America (Riley et al 2021; Wilson and Mandrak 2021) and is under significant threat from climate change (Casselman 2008; Guzzo and Blanchfield 2017). Being stenothermal, lake trout behaviourally thermoregulate by migrating to deeper, cooler water when lakes thermally stratify during the summer (Martin and Olver 1980; Guzzo and Blanchfield 2017).…”
