Paleoenvironmental studies of lakeside watershed settlements of the Tobol-Ishim inter-fluve (Zolotoe 1 settlement, Kurgan Oblast)

Abstract: During the study of the process of settling people in the territory of the forest-steppe and steppe zones of Western Siberia, both valleyside settlement sites of the Bronze Age and watershed lakeside settlements have been identified. The settlement of Zolotoe 1 is one of the few sites of the Late Bronze Age investigated by excava-tions and confined to the vast water-dividing surface between the rivers Tobol and Ishim in Kurgan Oblast. Two stages of population have been identified, associated with the Alakul an… Show more

“…A little climatic optimum was manifested in a deficit of humidification in the period of 1400-1100 BP, and in a short-term warming 1100-1000 BP. For last 1000 years, the landscapes hardly differed from modern ones [25,26].…”

“…The more evident reason for high intergroup variability of water chemistry within the certain group is the context of late quaternary evolution of aquatic environments and adjacent area. The morphology of shoreline, as well as adjacent lake depression in most cases shows signs of strong long-term level fluctuations [54][55][56], leading to connectivity of water bodies through recently dry channels. After the isolation of single lakes, their further evolution could be controlled by different local erosional activity within the watershed and potential of evaporation which, in turn, are related to the morphology of specific depression.…”
