“…Chlorinated Pd catalysts were prepared by wet impregnation, using PdCl 2 as a metal precursor, and γ-Al 2 O 3 (Alfa Aesar; pellets pre-ground/sieved to between a 90 and 75 μm mesh fraction) as described previously [23,24], followed by drying in air at 373 K. The samples were then calcined in flowing air (1 K min −1 ramp to 773 K and held at temperature for 4 h before cooling at 1 K min −1 ). Once cooled the samples were then sieved again to a 75-90 μm mesh fraction before use.…”

“…The 1 and 5 wt% Pd/Al 2 O 3 catalysts used for comparative purposes in this paper were prepared using PdCl 2 wet impregnation to γ-Al 2 O 3 as described previously [23,24] followed by drying (air at 373 K), calcination at 773 K, and then reduction under flowing H 2 at 773 K. The as made 5wt% Pd/Al 2 O 3 catalyst yielded a size distribution of particle between 2 and 4 nm in diameter in TEM (Jeol 2100F microscope) and a PdPd CN of 8 (from Pd K-edge EXAFS) after reduction in ethanol/ water to 350 K. The 1 wt% Pd/ Al 2 O 3 reference catalyst did not yield readily observable particles in TEM and gave a PdPd CN of ca. 7 after equivalent reduction.…”

“…9 Initially, supported Pd(OH) 2 on metal oxides were prepared by the deposition precipitation (DP) method using PdCl 2 as a precursor in basic aqueous solution (pH 8) at 70 for 1 h and then drying in air at 70 overnight. 10,11 Pd(OH) 2 / ZrO 2 was calcined in air at 300 for 4 h to give PdO/ZrO 2 and then treated in a stream of pure H 2 (40 mL/min) at 200 for 2 h to form Pd/ZrO 2 . According to HAADF STEM, Pd NPs of 10 wt% Pd(OH) 2 /ZrO 2 were well dispersed, and the mean diameter was calculated to be 1.8 0.9 nm.…”
