Palladium Nanoparticles Supported on Titanate Nanobelts for Solvent‐Free Aerobic Oxidation of Alcohols

Abstract: The solvent‐free selective oxidation of alcohols by O2 without any additives has been studied using palladium nanoparticles supported on a titanate nanobelt. The catalysts were prepared by polyol reduction and impregnation with different kinds of supports. They were evaluated in oxidation reactions of benzyl alcohol. The calcined titanate nanobelt was found to be the best support for the solvent‐free Pd‐catalyzed oxidation of alcohols and excellent catalytic activity as well as high selectivity to the correspo… Show more

“…Here the presence of a methoxy substituent at the ortho position partly prevents the transformation. This phenomenon has been recently observed with Pd-catalysts under similar conditions and steric hindrance was given as the reason for this lower reactivity [58,59]. Veratryl alcohol oxidation was rarely reported using Pd catalysts, even more with O 2 as oxidant [60][61][62][63][64][65].…”

“…More innovative support structures have also been investigated in an attempt to find unconventional ways of improving the catalytic performance of Pd NPs. Titanate nanobelts were investigated as support for Pd NPs for the same reaction [66]. Pd NPs were immobilized on the uncalcined and calcined titanate nanobelts by polyol reduction and tested at 120 • C in an oil bath under continuous oxygen stream.…”

“…The selective oxidation of alcohols to corresponding carbonyl compounds, e.g., aldehydes or ketones, is one of the most important transformations in the synthesis of fine chemicals [61,[118][119][120][121]. Traditional methods for performing such oxidation processes employ transition metal salts or organometallic complexes as homogeneous catalysts and involve inorganic oxidations, notably permanganate, chromate, bromate, and chromium(VI) re- …”

“…12 gents. Considering environmental and economic concerns, there is a great demand for using molecular oxygen as primary oxidation [120][121][122][123]. Moreover, homogeneous catalytic systems have difficulties in catalyst separation from the reaction medium and repeated utilization.…”
