The leading cause of blindness in the world is cataracts, which are dangerous and curable with proper eye care. Eye care service is thought to play significant role in prevention. Nonetheless, not much research has been done to gauge older persons' in rural India's level of cataract awareness and how it relates to their use of eye care services. Therefore, in order to prevent cataracts in the elderly, we described a self-instruction model for cataract knowledge and looked into the variations between pre- and post-test self-instruction models. Their demographic characteristics showed that the higher age group female had highest prevalence of cataracts. The study population's understanding of cataracts is incredibly low: only 2% of participants have adequate knowledge, 52% have somewhat adequate information, and 46% have inadequate knowledge. However, after completing the self-instructional module, 54% of participants felt they knew enough to prevent cataracts. The results of the study showed that the self-instructional module was very helpful in helping the senior population learn about cataract prevention. More interventional research with a larger sample size should be carried out to gain a better understanding of cataract prevention in older adults,.

BackgroundOver the past decades there has been a significant increase in the number of published clinical trials in palliative care. However, empirical evidence suggests that there are methodological problems in the design and conduct of studies, which raises questions about the validity and generalisability of the results and of the strength of the available evidence. We sought to evaluate the methodological characteristics and assess the quality of reporting of clinical trials in palliative care.MethodsWe performed a systematic review of published clinical trials assessing therapeutic interventions in palliative care. Trials were identified using MEDLINE (from its inception to February 2015). We assessed methodological characteristics and describe the quality of reporting using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool.ResultsWe retrieved 107 studies. The most common medical field studied was oncology, and 43.9% of trials evaluated pharmacological interventions. Symptom control and physical dimensions (e.g. intervention on pain, breathlessness, nausea) were the palliative care-specific issues most studied. We found under-reporting of key information in particular on random sequence generation, allocation concealment, and blinding.ConclusionsWhile the number of clinical trials in palliative care has increased over time, methodological quality remains suboptimal. This compromises the quality of studies. Background/aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate why dementia patients (DPs) are admitted to a palliative care center (PCC) and which factors affect the length of stay (LOS) of DPs in the PCC, and to predict the course of the disease. Materials and methods: The files of DPs were scanned retrospectively in the PCC between 2013 and 2016. Data related to age, sex, LOS, symptoms, clinical conditions, comorbidities, and prognosis were recorded. Results: The study included 85 DPs with a mean age of 84.1 ± 6.7 years. LOS was determined as a median of 15.0 days. While LOS decreased due to age and cancer, it increased due to pressure injury. Although mortality was increased by LOS, it was decreased by hypertension, mobilization, and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy. Among the DPs who were admitted to the PCC, the death rate was 54.1% and the discharge rate was 45.9%. Conclusion: It is concluded that adopting a palliative care approach eases symptom management. While this approach decreases the burden of symptoms, it at the same time increases the quality of life of DPs and their families.
