Palyno‐morphological diversity of Asteraceous and Poaceous allergenic plant using microscopic techniques in lesser Himalaya‐Pakistan

Abstract: In classification and identification of plant species, palyno morphological character has remain helpful for plant taxonomist. The aim to investigation this study was to identify the characteristic features of Asteraceae and Poaceae family member collected from lower Himalayas of Pakistan. Light microscope and Scanning electron microscope were used for feature study of allergenic pollen. Our study includes 10 species of Asteraceae and Poaceae family. The most dominant shape of pollen was Oblate-spheroidal, Pro… Show more

“…We investigated SEM images from the literature for grass pollen surface ornamentation and each specimen was identified into one specific morphotype. For the morphotype identification, we referred to the work by Mander & Punyasena (2015), and also carried out an additional search of the literature, with a main focus on work published after 2015 (Chaturvedi et al, 1998;Lee et al, 2004;López-Merino et al, 2015;Morgado et al, 2015;Needham et al, 2015;Dórea et al, 2017Dórea et al, , 2018Guimarães et al, 2018;Ruggiero & Bedini, 2018;Noor & Ahmad, 2021;Souza et al, 2021;Ullah et al, 2021;Visez et al, 2021;Anar et al, 2022;Toledo et al, 2022), and SEM figures of two species of Oryza provided by one of us (Limi Mao) (Appendix S4). The descriptions of new morphotypes from the literature follow Punt et al (2007).…”

“…Previous studies revealed that pollen morphology shows advancement in taxonomic characteristics like pollen type, exine and sexine appearance, position, measurement, number of apertures, type, and ornamentation [4]. Pollen grains are considered advantageous in morphological and phylogenetic studies [5][6][7][8][9][10]. Angiosperm might possess pollen apertures that are categorized based on their type; position and number vary from simple to composite [11].…”

“…Taxonomists studied pollen morphology as a tool in the identification and classification of Asteraceae and for its taxonomic value (Anar et al, 2022; Ayaz et al, 2020; Gonçalves‐Esteves et al, 2022; Khan et al, 2021; Ulukuş, 2019; Ulukuş & Tugay, 2020). Pollen morphology is not only playing an effective role in systematic value but, they are also helpful for taxonomic delimitation, which is associated with Asteraceous taxa (Kailas et al, 2016).…”
