Palynostratigraphy of coal deposits in Jabalpur stage, Upper Gondwana, India

Abstract: The quantitative and qualitative analyses of the dispersed miospores in the coal and coaly shales of the Jabalpur Stage, Jabalpur Series, Madhya Pradesh, India have been given. The miofloral assemblage consists of 58 spore genera and 103 species. It is characterized by the prominence of Araucariacites associated with the common occurrence of Callialasporites and Cycadopites. The cryptogamic components are poor in occurrence. A comparison of the mioflora with the Indian  and extra Indian Upper Gondwana mi… Show more

“…The Upper Gondwana palynoflora is basically uniform and is usually dominated by the Araueariacites-Callialasporites complex. The palynological assemblages from eastern and central India differ little from one another (Bharadwaj, Kumar & Singh, 1972;Maheshwari, 1973Maheshwari, , 1974Maheshwari, , 1975. The Jurassic and Cretaceous assemblages of surface samples from Kachchh Basin have some distinctive elements but the situation is still not very clear and needs further study.…”

“…B in Kutchch Basin possesses dominance of Gliseopollis and Rhaetipollis, but Corol/ina (=Classopollis/ Gliscopol/is) is poorly represented in Bagra Assemblage and shows an equivalent to or younger aspect in having Callialasporites trilobatus and Haradisporites mineri. The latter two elements are known in the overlying Jabalpur Formation (Jurassic -Lower Cretaceous) in Satpura Basin (Bharadwaj et al, 1972;. The presence of these two palynomorphs in Bagra sediments might be the earliest and the First occurrence datum of their occurrences during Rhaetian time.…”

“…Collection-Specimen The Gollapalle floral assemblage is similar to that of Sehora of the jabalpur Formation, Narsinghpur District, Madhya Pradesh, in common presence of Pachypteris, Ptilopbyllum, Elatocladus, Pagiophyllum, Bracbyphyllum and Araucarites Further, in both Weichselia and Cycadopteris are lacking and there is also paucity of ferns. Palynologically the sediments of Sehora are dated as Late jurassic/Early Cretaceous (Bharadwaj et at., 1972;Singh, 1966). However, Sharma et al (977) and'venkatachala and Sinha (986)…”
