“…The SSB sediments rest over two OMZ units (see Table 1), the Toca da Moura Volcano-Sedimentary Complex Machado and Hladil, 2010;Oliveira et al, 2006;Pereira et al, 2006;Santos et al, 1987 -see Fig. 1) and the Grupo de Cuba Felsics, that is made of microdiorites and porphyry rocks (Gonçalves, , 1984.…”

“…This compressive tectonic regime began in the Late Visean and caused enhanced uplift and subsequent erosion of the Ossa-Morena Zone and the palaeo-sea floor of the South Portuguese Zone by thrust stacking Pereira et al 2006;Jesus et al 2007;Rosas et al 2008). During the Visean an average exhumation rate of c. 2.6 km Ma −1 for the central areas of the Ossa-Morena Zone has been estimated using 40 Ar-39 Ar geochronology (Pereira et al 2012a).…”

“…These include (1) volcanism in the Iberian Pyrite Belt that is constrained to the Famennian (375 Ma) to Tournaisian (345 Ma) (Barrie et al 2002;Rosa et al 2009), (2) the Campo Frio Batholith in the South Portuguese Zone, which has yielded crystallization ages between 360 and 349 Ma (de la Rosa et al 2002;Rosas et al 2008), and (3) syncollisional magmatism and metamorphism on the SW border of the Ossa-Morena Zone, which is constrained to between 355 and 320 Ma (Santos et al 1987;Jesus et al 2007;Azor et al 2008). Additionally, a volcanic contribution from the Visean Toca da Moura and Cabrela volcano-sedimentary complexes of the Ossa-Morena Zone is possible (Pereira et al 2006). If we consider the rapid exhumation rates inferred for the Ossa-Morena Zone during the Visean (Pereira et al 2012a), it is possible that these igneous rocks were exhumed and eroded very quickly after their emplacement.…”
