Pancreatic duct stents

Abstract: Pancreatic duct stenting using endoscopy or surgery is widely used for the management of benign and malignant pancreatic diseases. Endoscopic pancreatic stents are mainly used to relieve pain caused by chronic pancreatitis and pancreas divisum, and to treat pancreatic duct disruption and stenotic pancreaticointestinal anastomosis after surgery. They are also used to prevent postendoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography pancreatitis and postoperative pancreatic fistula, treat pancreatic cancer, and locate … Show more

“…However, pancreatic stenting is now a more widely performed procedure in cases of intraductal hypertension, bypass obstructing stones, restoring lumen patency in cases with dominant, symptomatic strictures, and so on (16). Therapeutic stent placement is intended to restore the proper flow of pancreatic secretion and has demonstrated positive results in several studies of early-stage pancreatitis (17)(18)(19).…”

“…Endoscopic pancreatic duct stenting is useful for recurrent chronic obstructive pancreatitis 1,2 . However, approaching the caudal pancreatic duct is challenging in patients with severe stenosis or a spiral (loop type) or hairpin (reverse‐Z type) curve of the main pancreatic duct 3 .…”

“…Chronic pancreatitis patients are often accompanied by pancreatic duct stenosis; therefore, it is necessary to implant pancreatic duct stents to dilate the pancreatic duct for safe drainage. Pancreatic duct stenting using endoscopy or surgery showed good clinical prospects for the management of benign and malignant pancreatic diseases [16][17][18]. Pancreatic duct stenting is the major treatment option for chronic pancreatitis [19,20].…”
