Abstract:We assessed the value of pancreatic T2* magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for predicting cardiac events from a large prospective database of transfusion-dependent thalassemia (TDT) patients. We considered 813 TDT patients (36.47 ± 10.71 years, 54.6% females) enrolled in the Extension-Myocardial Iron Overload in Thalassemia Network. MRI was used to measure hepatic, pancreatic, and cardiac iron overload (IO), to assess biventricular function and atrial dimensions, and to detect replacement myocardial fibrosis. Th… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
