HighlightsWhile rare, pancreatitis from intra-gastric balloon (IGB) insertion does occur.It appears to be directly related to pressure effects from balloon.Removal of balloon and early recognition appears to improve outcomes and also allows to assess for evidence of gastric ischaemia.There are at least 13 reported cases now in the literature, which are summarised in this article.General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons should be aware of this rare complication of a commonly used device for weight loss.
