“…It has been mentioned that morphine and codeine can cause hyperamylasemia in the absence of pancreatic or salivary gland disease, which might be due to spasm of the sphincter of Oddi, and, subsequently, elevation of pancreatic isoamylase 5 1113. According to the product description sheet for Tramadol, an increase in liver enzymes has been reported in a few isolated cases.…”

“…Pancreatitis is not mentioned as a side effect or a sign of toxicity 14. Anyhow, the elevation of amylase and liver enzymes in opioid overdoses is unlikely to be more than 10 times the upper limit of normal, and this elevation is usually associated with CT scan verified pancreatitis 1113…”

“…Prior cholecystectomy is hypothesised to be a significant risk factor for codeine-induced pancreatitis. It is proposed that in the absence of the gallbladder as a reservoir, codeine-induced sphincter of Oddi spasm or constriction leads to increased pressure within the common bile duct and thus predisposes to pancreatitis [2,8]. It is also suggested that damage to the nerve fibres passing between the gallbladder and sphincter of Oddi during cholecystectomy may alter sphincter function [2].…”

“…En el momento actual el tratamiento de elección es el triclabendazol 5-10 mg/kg en dosis única (1,3,7). Otras opciones son bitionol 30-50 mg/kg/día, 20-30 días o metronidazol 1,5 g/día 13-28 días (8).…”
