Inequality is growing all over the world. As literature shows, two determinants are repeatedly mentioned, responsible for this inequality: incomes and jobs. The growing international trade and technological advancement direct this change as machines are increasingly replacing jobs. Nowadays, Bangladesh is gaining progress in transforming the rural-based agrarian economy approaching modern urban-based manufacturing and service-based economy, contributing a sound basis for further transformation. Simultaneously, it was an agricultural country from its genesis, and agriculture played a dominant role in the economy regarding income generation and employment opportunities. Education is pertinent in this regard as it has significant implications in human capital and the labor market. This study strives to identify the influence of governance in higher education and the labor market and focuses on exploring the significant determining factors of inequality in the existing society. It also tries to answer why the research on higher education and the labor market is essential in Bangladesh for self-sustaining and how the research could be executed. In this global era, institutions produce a bias in favor of the status quo. This study focuses on knowing how this bias will change through research on governance in education and the labor market in the future. Finally, the study concludes by expecting the practical outcomes of further research on higher education and the labor market for sustainable growth and development.

This paper examines the impact of migration and changes in the population’s age structure on government expenditures on education in Ukraine. The cohort method, considering a group of people attending four main types of education, namely, preschool, general secondary, vocational and technical, and higher education, is used to analyze and forecast government expenditures in the medium and long term. The study results show that migration significantly impacts government budget expenditures on education, with the most significant impact being seen on preschool education, followed by higher education, while the impact on general secondary and vocational education is minimal. The number of people receiving education in one of the four main types of institutions funded by state and local budgets was predicted to gradually decrease during the forecast period, except for secondary and vocational education. The overall volume of state expenditures would gradually decrease, both in absolute terms and as a percentage of GDP. Improving educational processes and the quality of budget spending should become an area for state regulation to ensure quality education in all funding conditions. This research’s leading theoretical and practical results show the efficiency of this methodology for analyzing and forecasting budget expenditures on education. They can be helpful in the short and medium terms, considering all potential changes in demographic indicators regarding the population.

Over recent decades, universities in England have transitioned from providing higher education (HE) for the elite to HE for the masses. Funding mechanisms have changed, cost‐sharing has shifted from public to private sources, and efficiency and productivity have been emphasized. Three excellence frameworks relating to research, teaching, and knowledge exchange have been introduced to assess performance. In this paper, we explore the systems of performance measurement and funding implemented in English HE and critically appraise these against the recommendations from the relevant literature. We conclude that these frameworks, by separately assessing performance in the three missions, inadequately account for synergies between activities, thereby ignoring the civic nature of universities and possibilities for economies of scale and scope. We conclude by highlighting some emerging areas for future research. While the focus of the paper is English HE, the themes and findings are relevant to all HE sectors around the world.
